ON TAP: Eastern Illinois Outdoor Track & Field heads to Des Moines, Iowa where the men and women athletes will participate in the Drake Relays at Drake University.

LAST WEEK: The Panthers accumulated two first place finishes, rewrote some school records, and set multiple new personal bests at last weekends Illini Invitational in Urbana-Champaign, Ill. The Panthers took the top two spots in the women’s javelin throw, as Danielle Scaduto registered a distance of 41.43m (135’11”), tying her for 6th place in EIU school history. Caroline Lendy finished right behind her with a distance of 38.10m (125′). In the men’s long jump, Ramsey Hunt set a new personal record and moved up to third place in EIU school history, recording a distance of 7.75m (25’5.25″) en route to a first place finish. McKenna Wojcicki finished fifth with a time of 1:04.68 in the women’s 400m hurdles while Hallee Thomas finished right behind her with a new personal best time of 1:04.99. In the men’s 1500 meter dash, Jaime Marcos finished in fourth place and set a new personal best with a time of 3:52.87. Isai Morales (3:56.17) and Andrew Pilat (4:00.53) both also set new personal bests.

The Panthers took second place in the men’s 4x100m relays, as the team of Tadiwa MhondeSean HopkinsJahleel Perrinand Ricky Johnson finished with a season best time of 40.97. In the women’s 100 meter hurdles, Akiya Kollore (13.67) and Shanisa Stinson (13.71) finished in second and third place respectively, and move up to second and fourth place respectively in EIU school history. Wojcicki (14.44) and Thomas (14.58) also set new personal bests. In the men’s 400 meter dash, Ricky Johnson finished in fifth place with a time of 48.98, while Greg Downs set a new personal best with a time of 50.25. In the men’s 100 meter dash, Sean Hopkins finished in second place and set a new personal best with a time of 10.44. The time ties him for eighth all-time in EIU school history. Perrin (10.69), Colin Marchio (10.76), Miller (10.88), and Jalen Echols (11.16) all also set new personal highs. In the women’s 4×400 meters relay, EIU’s team of Zakiya Johnson, Kollore, Stinson, and Wojcicki came in third place with a season best time of 3:52.27. In the men’s 4×400, EIU’s quartet of Josiah NealRicky JohnsonDamian Clayand Riley Baker finished in fourth place with a season best time of 3:18.77.

UPCOMING: The Panthers will head to Bloomington, Indiana where they will participate in the Billy Hayes Outdoor Invitational. The meet will be held Friday, May 6.

HEAD COACH: Keith Roberts was hired as the new Director of Track and Field for the Panthers, and is entering his first season as the head track and field coach. He just becomes the fourth director of track and field in the program’s NCAA Division I history. Roberts arrives at EIU after serving six years as recruiting coordinator and assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh. During his time there, Roberts helped with Pitt’s transition from the Big East to the ACC. With his assistance the men’s track and field team rose from 11th in the conference to 4th place. Roberts has recruited and coached ACC scorers in the women’s 60 hurdles, men’s 60 hurdles, women’s 100m dash, men’s 200m dash, women’s 400m dash, men’s 400m dash, women’s 400 hurdles, men’s 400 hurdles, men’s and women’s 4×100 relay and men’s and women’s 4×400 relay.
