“Gave Her Another Reason To Buy $1000 Dress”: Arnold Schwarzenegger Took a Hilarious Dig at Ex-Wife Maria Shriver While Boasting His Achievement in 2011

Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the greatest bodybuilders in American history. He is a seven-time Mr. Olympia champion and has also won many other prestigious awards for his contribution to the sport. Schwarzenegger also has a bodybuilding competition – The Arnold Classic, named after him. In bodybuilding, this championship is considered the second most prestigious event.

Outside of bodybuilding, Schwarzenegger has achieved various other feats while being an A-listed Hollywood actor. One of them includes a doctorate honor. Talking about this achievement once, Schwarzenegger took a funny dig at his now ex-wife.

Arnold Schwarzenegger boasts about his accomplishments

In 2009, Schwarzenegger received a Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of Southern California. According to Wales Online, the bodybuilder-turned-actor-turned-politician received this special award for his “inspirational realization of the American dream”.

However, two years later, in 2011, Schwarzenegger appeared on Jay Leno’s talk show. Host Leno then congratulated the bodybuilder on his doctorate honor and asked if Schwarzenegger’s then-wife Maria Shriver was happy about this honor. To this question, “The Austria Oak” gave a hilarious answer that sent the audience into a fit of laughter.

Schwarzenegger said, “You know she loves it. She was there at the ceremony, gave her another reason to buy a $1000 dress.” Adding to the joke he said, “She buys a dress even when I get a speeding ticket.”

But later, Schwarzenegger confessed his wife was indeed very happy for him. He recalled the night he received his special honor and said, “No, she was very happy. I remember the night when I got the degree, I flew home, and I put on my pajamas and I put on some cologne, and then I went into the bedroom and said ‘Maria the doctor’s ready to see you.'”

Schwarzenegger is known for his humor and charismatic personality, which was displayed during this old interview. In 2011, Schwarzenegger’s affair with housekeeper Mildred Baena led to his separation from Shriver. However, the ex-couple legally divorced in 2021.

Throughout the years, besides obtaining many bodybuilding awards and titles, Schwarzenegger has received various honors. In 2014, Schwarzenegger received the Primetime Emmy Award for his role in the famous documentary Years of Living Dangerously.

In 2017, GQ Germany honored “The Austria Oak” as the “Legend of the Century”. The legendary bodybuilder has also received many Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards. One of the most surprising honors Schwarzenegger has ever received is his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.
